HP Driver Website Tutorial

Finding your way around HP's website is fairly simple, and downloading the latest drivers for an HP device is easy once you've located the correct page. HP has been responsible for bringing to market a very wide array of computers and related peripherals. Aside from their various laptop and desktop lines, they also offer products such as digital cameras, printers, and other similar devices which can enrich one's computing experience. If you're having trouble identifying your particular piece of hardware, browsing by product category or submitting a search for the serial number listed on its label should help you.

Let's start off on HP's home page, which can be viewed at "www.hp.com". Near the top of this page, just beneath the HP logo in the corner you'll find a wide toolbar used for navigating to the main subsections of the website. One of those tabs will be labeled with the phrase, "Support & Drivers." After you've clicked this tab, the main window's content will change and before you can continue you'll be asked a question to clarify your objective. For support, you'd select the bubble followed by "See support and troubleshooting information." Of course, we just want to go straight to the drivers in this case, so alternately select the "Download drivers and software" option to move on.

The grayed-out box beneath the one that offered the two aforementioned options will appear solid, and you will have a couple more options. You can either type in your product's model name or number to go straight to its download page to save steps, or you can browse manually if you are unsure. To browse manually, you must first select a "product category." This is the most broad division between products, allowing you to select laptop, camera, projector, or whichever type is applicable. After making your selection, you'll be moved to a brand new page which will enable you to further narrow down your results. Continue making selections until there are no more steps; eventually you'll find yourself at the specific page for your device model. For most pages, you can find an image of the distinct model at whose page you've arrived which is worth taking a look at as extra insurance; it will help to ensure that you are on the correct page.

Before you can download the drivers you need, you'll first be prompted to select the operating system running on the computer which is to have the drivers installed. Once this is done, the page will fill with information about the one or many drivers available. For complete computer systems, expect many different drivers for the many components which comprise them. To find out which components require new drivers and which ones are up to date, take a look at the device manager function within Windows; components with a yellow circle next to them have not had the correct drivers yet installed.

Once you've figured out exactly which driver files are needed, right click on their download link and select "Save as..." from the menu that appears. Choose a location which is easy to find, such as the "Desktop," and save the file. Be patient as it make take some time to complete transferring. Once the download has finished, you may open a file browser and change to the directory within which the file was saved. Since all of HP's drivers have been packaged as self-extracting executable files, all that is needed is to double click the file's icon and follow the graphical installer's step-by-step instructions. If everything goes well, when the process has completed successfully the driver installer will confirm its completion and likely ask you to reboot your system. If there are other drivers that need to be installed, you may install them before rebooting and all system changes will take effect at once.
